September is Slow Food’s Membership Campaign

Now is a great time to join the Slow Food Movement and become a member! During the month of September, Slow Food USA is focusing on 4 different themes. The first week is a campaign to raise awareness about the production of our factory farmed meats and seafood, with a Slow Meat and woman_slowfoodSlow Fish Campaign to support sustainable, humane production of the foods we eat. Slow Meat and Slow Fish raises awareness about how our animals are treated, whether they are fed antibiot
ics and hormones, whether they eat a GMO diet and have access to pasture or clean water. The theme of the second week is the Ark of Taste, which is a campaign that supports a biodiverse and biodelicious future for our tables. Slow Food highlights new products that have been boarded onto the Ark, and feature the people pushing to save endangered items. You can join The Town Hall conference call
on Sept 8th at 4pm, which will feature Marion Nestle (Author and NYU Professor) and Richard McCarthy (Executive Director of SFUSA) discussing how Big Ag suppresses biodiversity and how food policy fits into the current political landscape. The third themGive-what-you-cane is a focus on
School Gardens & Youth. This week, we’ll talk about the impact of gardening on both schools and families, and how you can bring i-dig-school-gardens-150x150these lessons home. During this week, for one day only, September 15th, you can pay what you want to become a member. This is a great option for students and people with limited income who want to support our work. You must use this link: https://www.slowfoodusa.org/give-what-you-can. Also, on September 16th, you can get a free tote or tee shirt for the first 50 people who join with a family membership! The last week in September is a celebration of our local chapters. Gathering together is core to the Slow Food movement, and delegates from around the world will be coming together in Torino, Italy for Terra Madre, to highlight the movement and to promote Slow Food USA’s next big event, Slow Food Nations, a national gathering in Denver, CO, July 2017.
On September 22nd, generous donors have offered to match all donations up to $10K, so that is a great day to join!

A Documentary – “INHABIT” A Permaculture Perspective

Inhabitsave the date!

INHABIT
Tuesday, June 7th at 7:30pm

co-presented by

Slow Food North Shore  & The Cinema Arts Centre

“Let’s Eat: Food on Film Series”

Includes a Q&A with Costa Boutsikaris – the Director, Cinematographer & Editor,  and a permaculture inspired reception prepared by us!

PURCHASE TICKETS

Inhabit is a feature length documentary detailing permaculture: a design method that offers an ecological lens for solving issues related to agriculture, economics, governance, and on. The film presents a vast array of projects, concepts, and people, and it translates the diversity of permaculture into something that can be understood by an equally diverse audience. For those familiar, it will be a call to action and a glimpse into what’s possible – what kind of projects and solutions are already underway. For those unfamiliar, it will be an introduction to a new way of being and a new way of relating to the Earth. For everyone, it will be a reminder that humans are capable of being planetary healing forces.
